Beginner Yoga

How are you all doing beautiful homemakers? Its been a while after my last chat with you.  Our previous days were like a roller-coaster ride, plus we welcomed a family guest but as always my husband and I reminded each other…the good thing about it is God is in control.  Anyway, I just want to update and at the same time follow-up you all. Remember, the post I wrote the Seven Commitment of a Homemaker, and one of the commitment I made was to be Be healthy Physically. Well the latest update was,  I recommit myself to restart Yoga phase. I found this Beginner Yoga Workout Video by Exercise TV and believe me, it is much easier to follow and relaxing to do.  I actually like how the trainer Meaghan Towsend (athlete) explained clearly and give an example in doing the pose properly in a more fun way.

Joshua and I became hooked with Yoga since the last quarter of 2015. He was diagnosed to have a lumbar levoscoliosis with compensatory thoracic destroscoliosis  on his lower back. His Physical Therapist suggested this exercise for him to at least train his muscle to become more flexible, and for him to develop a good posture not to cause greater damage in his scoliosis and to manage it.  As for me I like doing Yoga because it actually helps me to manage my sciatica and helps me to become more flexible given that we are not getting any younger anymore, and mostly I sweat while doing it for about 18 minutes daily.  Not bad ha?

And wait there’s more health benefits to reap in doing Yoga.  According  www.osteopathic.org some of these are:

  • Increased flexibility
  • Increased muscle strength and tone
  • Improved respiration, energy and vitality
  • Maintaining a balanced metabolism
  • Weight reduction
  • Cardio and circulatory health
  • Improved athletic performance
  • Protection from injury

I also noticed that, while doing the stretching and sweating, I experienced a deep sense of mental relaxation.  Managing stress well is one of the top priorities in our home. Since I was born and grew up in the Philippines, one of the way I cope up with stress is socializing with our families and friends.  Joshua, who was born and grew in the USA copes with stress through music therapy and self-medication.  Developing a healthy habit like yoga is part of us becoming more accountable to each other as we become healthier, creating a blissful home not just for us but also to our daughter.

I found my encouragement from the passage of Hebrews 10:24-25 which says,

Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

I will say again what I said before, ladies let’s encourage and empowered ourselves.  Exercise with me, and please if you can, link me to the list of your healthy food menus that is easy to prepare, and budget wise achievable.  Let us help each other. We are not meant to be alone, but instead we were created to be in a community. God gave us one another for our protection. The small group is a venue where God wants us to be a blessing. –CCF
