City of Henderson: Don’t throw it away, Be Smart. Recycle.

Hours ago, we went to the City Hall of Henderson, Tennessee to check on the One Peoples Public Trust (OPPT) paper work that Joshua dropped off weeks ago but we were not able to have it.  But the good thing about our visit was, we found out that the City has an on going program about recycling involving the residents within the City limits.  The recycling program already existed years ago but not 100% of the residents participate.  Obviously, we just found it now!

The catch is they will provide a pack of Blue Trash Bags, 25 pieces each and they will be the one to pick up all the filled bags of recyclable materials every other Friday.  I believe the main goal is to encourage each household to learn the 3R’s which are Reduce, Reuse and Recycled

Free Pack of Blue Trash Bags

One more good thing in participating this recycling is that you don’t need to sort it out people from the local jail will separate it all into different types and materials.

This actually answered one of my breath prayer a few days ago, I uttered of having an extra garbage container to segregate the biodegradable from non-biodegradable supporting what we envision to do which is the outdoor and indoor herbal and veggie garden to promote the herbalism and holism as a way of life.  Those food scraps and all of the biodegradable items will  be buried for composting and will be use as fertilizer.  We didn’t have the container but we received 25 pieces of Blue Plastic Bags.  It exactly fit to what we really need and more than enough.  God is really a provider.  All praises to Him for He knows what’s best to us.

Our motivation to participate is inspired by the word of Christ after they fed the 5,000 people to his disciples as written in John 6:12  which says, After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, ” Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” As my fiance says, “the active recycling of your waste, produces good energy”. So what are you waiting for? Don’t throw it away, Be Smart. Recycle.

For more information in joining and availing the Blue Trash Bag you can call 983-5000 and get in touch with Ms. Sheila of City Hall or visit http://www.hendersontn.org/recycling/recycling.html and be directed to the Henderson recycling program.

Planting to be fruitful

One
of the project that my fiance and I envisioned together is to have an
outdoor and indoor herbal and veggie garden.  We talked and planned about
it a year ago. Joshua is a natural herbal lover that is why he decided to change his major from Political Science to Complimentary in Alternative Healthcare for he envisions that herbalism and holism is a way of life and since I love administering, and discovering new things out from what is available in the environment, we started to gather the bell pepper seeds from Grammy’s kitchen after using it.  Instead of putting it to garbage we sun dried it for it will be beneficial to plant it and be fruitful so nothing will be wasted.

Right after our brisk walking, we prepared the seed bed for the bell pepper seeds. This activity gives Joshua an actual and physical introduction of his online subject with Ashford University which is  Dependence of Man on the Environment.  Though we already know this activity made us deeply appreciate how importance of natural resources to mankind.

The good thing about this activity, the productivity of our relationship as a couple is being utilize practically towards our vision, it added fun to us as friends by influencing and inspiring each other to make it happen plus doing things together as I discovered from our pre-marital seminar is one of my way of showing intimacy because time is my love language.

Gooseberry-Almonds Surprise Cake

Yay! Two people working at the kitchen early in the morning while sipping a cup of coffee.  Doing the measuring, and preparing ingredients for the Baked and Yard sale at Christ Community Church.

Finally, after a 2-hours and a half of preparing and baking, Joshua and I finally got the result of our first baking experience as a team.  Our finished baked product is called Gooseberry-Almonds Surprise Cake as named by Joshua a man behind Herblend Teas.

Amla Gooseberry is very highly concentrated in vitamin C. It enhances food absorption, balances stomach acid, fortifies the liver, nourishes the brain and mental functioning, supports the heart, strengthens the lungs, regulates elimination, enhance fertility, helps the urinary system, is good for the skin, promotes healthier hair from roots to tip and also the color. Acts as a body colagen, flushes out toxins, increases vitality, strengthens the eyes, improves muscle tone, and it acts as an antioxidant. It can improve eyesight. This berry may slow the aging process.

For those who love to try this at home, here are the ingredients and how to do it:

3/4 cup of butter,softened
1 cup sugar, sieved
3 large, fresh eggs, beaten
3/4 cup self-rising flour, sifted (Ginger Evans)
3/4 tsp baking powder
2 cups raw natural almonds, crushed
1/2 cup dried amla gooseberry, boiled and made into tea
1 cup water
3 tsp sugar
2 cups raw whole almonds

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Beat the butter and 1 cup sugar until pale and fluffy. (Better to beat the butter separately before adding the sugar). Add the eggs a little at a time, beating well after each addition. If the mixture starts to curdle, add a tablespoon of flour. Fold in the rest of the flour, the 2 cups of crushed raw almonds, and the baking powder using a wooden spoon. Gradually add the 1/8 cup extracted amla gooseberry tea. Grease the eco-foil aluminum cake (12 1/4 in. x 8 1/4 in. x 1 3/32 in.) pan with olive oil or  butter.

2. Bake for 25 minutes then remove from the oven and sprinkle the 2 cups raw whole almonds and return to the oven for another 10 minutes. The cake is ready when a fork inserted to its center comes out clean. Leave it to cool in the pan then carefully remove it out from it and turn it over in a separate pan.

You can actually eat it with a cup of mind-brew coffee.

For those who are interested, you can order from us for only 10 dollars per whole cake (freshly baked) plus shipping and handling with a size mentioned above. Just leave a comment with your contact details and we will get back to you as soon as we can or you can call us at 731-9893842.

Child Hunger Charity a click away

One of the fondest thing that I enjoyed a lot is doing the grocery shopping for it’s one form of my relaxation. I love seeing fresh vegetables and fruits of different sizes and color that are carefully sorted on food shelves .  Not to mention those canned goods that filled both sides of the aisles that offers a discounted and affordable prices. Walking slowly and pushing the cart around it give me a sense of not being rush by anyone or anything.

I am blessed, because just this afternoon I had a fun grocery experience with my fiance and his Mom. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Good News Translation (GNT)
17 Command
those who are rich in the things of this life not to be proud, but to
place their hope, not in such an uncertain thing as riches, but in God,
who generously gives us everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share with others. 19 In
this way they will store up for themselves a treasure which will be a
solid foundation for the future. And then they will be able to win the
life which is true life.
